As you may expect, the last kind is the most dangerous and requires a bit of work to take down, so here’s everything you need to know about defeating armored enemies.
Beating Armored Enemies
You’ll first encounter armored enemies about halfway through A Plague Tale: Requiem, and the game will give you a bit of a hint on how to take them down.
The thing to keep in mind is that you must take their armor off before you can actually defeat them. To do this, you must use your sling to take out the chain that holds their armor in place, then you can hit their chest with a crossbow bolt or burn them alive with fire and tar. However, armored enemies come in two types, so we’ll go over both.
Mace-Wielding Armored Enemies
Mace-Wielding armored adversaries are hulking brutes that carry a flaming mace as a weapon. The chain you must break is on their back.
During stealth sections you can, of course, sneak by them, but the story makes you fight a few in combat encounters. The best thing to do is use Extinguis ammo with your sling or a pot to blind the enemy, which creates an opening for you to circle behind them and take out the chain.
Once their armor plate is off, simply hit them with a crossbow bolt. If you don’t have a bolt, you can always hit any nearby jars of tar with Ignifer from your sling, or use tar in your sling before setting them ablaze with Ignifer.
Shield-Wielding Armored Enemies
Shield-Wielding armored enemies will pop up late in the story, and they’re quite a bit more dangerous than their counterparts. Your first order of business is to make them drop their shield; the best way to do so is to hit the torch in their hand with tar.
It will always be easiest to hit them with a tar jar, but if you can’t find one, you can use tar from your sling — but you’ll need to get the jump on them. If the shielded enemy has you in their sight line, they’ll block anything you throw at them. One way to get around this is to combine tar with a jar and throw it from a hiding spot.
Once the shield is down, you must take out the chain on the front of their armor. The same tricks as before apply, and once the armor is off, simply hit them with a crossbow bolt or burn them alive.
Now you should have no problem taking out any armored enemies you come across. Make sure to keep these tips in mind as you get into the later chapters of Requiem, as they tend to throw a ton of enemies at you.
